It's official. This year's Diversity Monologue Contest special guest is Carlos Andrés Gómez. Gómez is an award-winning poet, actor, and playwright from New York City. A former social worker in Harlem and the south Bronx and public school teacher in Philadelphia and Manhattan, Gómez has performed at over 200 colleges and universities and toured across North America, Europe, the Caribbean, and Africa. He was nominated for the Pushcart Prize and named Artist of the Year at the 2009 Promoting Outstanding Writers Awards. He is a two-time International Poetry Slam Champion, most recently winning the Buffalo/Niagara International Poetry Slam in June 2010 against top slammers from across North America after placing first at the Toronto International Poetry Slam Championships in September 2006. Carlos co-stars in Spike Lee's movie "INSIDE MAN" (Universal Pictures) with Denzel Washington,  Jodie Foster, and Clive Owen. Most recently, he showcased his talent in MTV's first ever poetry slam alongside hip hop luminary Talib Kweli. We feel so lucky to have him as this year's special guest. We just found out also that he has performed with Andrea Gibbson who graced the Dickinson Campus with her outstanding performance this past fall. We are in for a treat.
